Easter Bonnet Cookies

These Easter bonnet cookies are made with my grandmother's old-fashioned tea cakes cookie recipe, cut with a large and a small cookie cutter, then place the small cookie on top of the large with a little frosting in between to stick them together. These are simply decorated because it was an impromptu party. I've seen prettier hat cookies made with marshmallows and frosting, and these could also be decorated prettier.

Nana's Tea Cakes

2 sticks butter
2 cups sugar
3 eggs
4 cups flour
1 teaspoon vanilla
Canned frosting
Tubes of decorative frosting gel

Cream butter and sugar, add eggs one at a time, then dry ingredients. Mix well and divide into two or three large balls. Roll out one ball at a time. Cut with large and small cookie cutters. (I use a large spaghetti sauce can as a cookie cutter)
Bake 13 minutes at 350 degrees.
