Tonight I'm sharing a quilt my grandmother made over 45 years ago. She only made the quilt top and gave it to me to finish! I never did learn how to do it, so I finally paid a nice elderly woman to finish it for me. She did it by hand! My grandmother wanted my daughter to have it (I only had one daughter at the time, now I have two!) I'm displaying the quilt on the end of the antique iron bed in my guest room.
I don't know the name of the pattern, I don't think it is Sunbonnet Sue. Do you know the name of the pattern?To continue with sharing my Ivy and Innocence collection, I'm featuring the Fire House.

Ivy Fire House and Pumper No. 2
The back and side of the Ivy Fire House shows the pole the firemen slide down. On this side of the pumper you can see the hose better. Can you see the black boots, bell, and bucket?
Left to right: Junior Fire Captain, Captain Blaze, and Sparky's House.

What a gorgeous quilt! It's special and how wonderful to have it where you can proudly display it!
Many years ago, I cleaned for an elderly lady, Miss Edith. When she moved in with her son she gave me the quilt top that she had made after her husband died, her therapy quilt. My best friend (a quilter herself) finished it for me and presented it back to me. Miss Edith was thrilled when I showed it to her!

What a wonderful heirloom you have and the fact that it was made by your grandmother makes it even more special. You really do have a great collection of the Ivy and Innocence. I love the mailbox and the little fence.

This beautiful quilt reminds me of a quilt pattern I have but have never made. When my son was very little I saw a quilt pattern I loved advertised in a magazine. It was an old-fashioned girl similar to the one on your quilt. The pattern was called "Melissa". I so hoped that someday I would have a daughter and since childhood had thought I would name a daughter Melissa. Then God gave us our precious daughter - we named her Melissa. I found that the pattern was available so I ordered it but I couldn't afford the supplies. Then she began to grow up and I decided to wait until she would 'appreciate' the quilt. Now she is grown up, a busy mother and wife, and I don't think her husband would appreciate the quilt on their bed. I've never made it but seeing yours has given me reason to think I should! Perhaps someday. I'll let you know when I do.
