Show and Tell

It's time for Kelli's Show and Tell. Go here to see more.

Today I'm sharing my Granddaddy's pipes. He always smoked pipes and had a small collection of them. I called him "Papa." Papa was a tall man, and all his grandchildren thought he was grand!
I always think of him when I smell pipe tobacco. He lived to be in his 80s, and although he smoked pipes, he was fairly healthy up until then. He died in 1965 and we missed him terribly. His wife, my grandmother, was was almost 20 years younger than him, and she lived many years after he died, but she never remarried. When they married she was 16 and he was 35 when they married. He was a widower with two sons. They had four more children together. Their oldest child was my mother.

I display Papa's pipes in our family room on the end table by our sofa.

A close-up photo of the vignette where the pipes are displayed.

Thank you for your interest, it is so appreciated. Please leave a comment, and please do return soon!

Katherine

P.S. - you are invited to visit my Power of Prayer blog at http://christiansprayerpower.blogspot.com/ to read a response by Dutch Sheets about the election results.

How sweet to have your grandpa's pipes. I love stories about the memories people have of their grandparents. I hope someday my grandchildren will have a good memory of me!

It's nice to have your papa's pipes. My uncle is a pipe smoker and all he does is fiddle with them if you ever go over his house. He's not too well, but he'll stink up the place with pipe smoke. : )

Wow to be 16 and married - I can't even imagine! It's great that you have his pipes and have them where you can see them and be reminded of him.

Ohhhhhhhhhhh, those pipes are heirlooms if you ask me. And I love how you have your lamp sitting atop some of the classics in literature.

Happy show n tell today. Stop by if you can find time.

What a beautiful and special display!
We have a pipe shop in Old Town St. Charles. I love to go in there and smell it all. I've bought some tobacco just for potpouri before!
Perhaps you could find some you like to add to your vignette.

Katherine,

How lucky you are to have your grandfather's pipes. I like your little vignette.

Grandpa smoked a pipe as well, but I wasn't lucky enough to get any of them. He owned several.

Thanks for sharing. This brought back memories of my childhood.

Blessings,
Mary

How special to have such great memories of your "papa". My brother used to smoke a pipe so when I smell vanilla/cherry tobacco, I think of him.
Have a fantastic day!

They look as if he just laid them down there. What a wonderful token of remembrance!

Wow, I love these. I can just imagine how they smell! My dad smoked pipes and I have some of his. They are so beautifully made, arent they? My mother was 16 and my father 32 when they married. You don't hear of that kind of age difference very often.

how lovely that you have your papa's pipes. I called my grandfather papa as well. I love the "patina" the pipes have collected over the years.
