Show and Tell - Rose Necklace

Time for Kelli's Show and Tell, go to There's No Place Like Home for many more fun stories!

Today I'm sharing a rose necklace a friend made for me back in the late 80s. It is made with real dried tiny rose buds, with tiny pearls, all strung on a pink ribbon. I worked with this friend at NASA, Kennedy Space Center. She was a young engineer, and she eventually went on to astronaut training. I lost touch with her and never learned if she became an astronaut or not. I know she hasn't flown on the shuttle yet, because I keep up with them. A Shuttle went up just today, but it was cloudy here and I couldn't see it, like we usually can. I was surprised that she was interested in crafts! I thought this necklace was so unusual, I have never seen one like it before. It has lasted a long time too! I think this could be a fun project to make someone for Valentine's Day, perhaps your children could make one.

Thank you for your interest, please leave a comment! And please do return soon!

Oh how fun and unique the necklace is. It would be fun to attempt making something like it. I can't believe I'm saying that though cuz I'm so craft challenged! Enjoy...

Thanks for sharing the story and photo of your unique necklace. I really like how she put it together. I've had a collection of wild rose buds and didn't know what I was going to do with them but now I am inspired by this show and tell.

So beautiful! I love the dried flower and pearl combination with the pink ribbon. I would like to try to make one. I grow lots of miniature roses and dry the buds --- this would be a good thing to do with them.

A perfect Valentine's post!

Dear Katherine,
I saw your sweet comments in my blog this morning. Thank you.
I love the rose necklace. I have worked with roses like this to decorate objects like ballerina slippers. I love dried roses and it is such a nice way to keep roses that have been given to you after they have faded away. The fragrance will remain from the dried roses for a very long time as well. Have a wonderful day. Pat

My show n tell is a Valentine wreath I made this week. I do hope you can drop by for a visit.

I am trying to figure out how she got the buds to stay on? Did she "string" them before they dried? It's definitely unique! How do you display it at home?

I haven't ever done anything like this, it seems very delicate. I don't know how long that would last with grandbabies trying to stick it into their mouths.

It would be fun for you to see your friend someday on a shuttle. Its cool that you can see these flights taking off.

What a marvelous necklace, Katherine! It's lovely! I'm amazed the rose buds have lasted this long. How have you stored it? It a cool, dark place? :)

Katherine,

The necklace is lovely. I'm surprised that it has lasted so long. Possibly she laquered the rosebuds. I'm sure the grandsons would love to make this for their Mom. Maybe we will attempt it when we get some rosebuds.

Thanks for sharing.

Blessings,
Mary

Katherine, thanks for sharing that sweet little rosebud necklace. I can't see the pearls in the picture. How cool would it be if she went on to become a famous astronaut??
