Home from the Hospital!

I'm happy to be back to one of my favorite hobbies - blogging- and my blogger friends! I have missed you!

I've been in the hospital. I'll give a brief note, but spare you the many details. About ten days ago I woke up at 5 a.m. with excruciating pain and finally went to the ER at 9. I've had a large (1/2 inch kidney stone!) I was admitted to the hospital that day and the next day they put stints in to help the pain until I could have the stone "zapped." During that procedure there were complications and I ended up in ICU for four days. I had to stay a few more days after that and then the ESWL "zapping machine" arrived at our hospital. (I was in seven days in all.) Yesterday I went back to have the "zapping" (*ESWL see below) and the doctor thinks he got it all. I have to go back this coming Monday for an ex-ray and to have the stints removed. This has truly been a nightmare and I wouldn't wish that pain on my worst enemy!!

(For those who want more details:)
*ESWL
Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy

Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) is the most frequently used procedure for the treatment of kidney stones. In ESWL, shock waves that are created outside the body travel through the skin and body tissues until they hit the denser stones. The stones break down into small particles.

Thanks to my friends!

This basket of beautiful spring flowers are from my friends, Lynn and Eddie!
The other side of the basket of flowers, aren't they lovely, and cheerful!

Of course, there are yellow roses included!!

I probably won't be as active with blogging for a few more days, but I do hope to reply to all your sweet comments soon! (I'll also share more pretty flowers I received!)

Thank you!

Katherine

You have my sympathy. Even though I have never had even ONE kidney stone, my HUBBY is a gravel quarry - - - creating stones ad nauseum. He's had the procedure of which you speak and also actual surgery where they took the stones out.

When he is in a full blown attack, and wakes me up to take him to the ER (why do these things always hit in the middle of the night?) he is in such pain that he JUMPS OUT OF THE CAR before I can even bring it to a stop at the ER doors!!!

Hope this will be your ONLY painful trip down kidney stone lane.

Oh my...
That is real pain! You poor dear. But the key thing to all you wrote is that you are "Back for the Hospital!!!" That is just the best news! Now you just need to recover and praise God for healing you and for all those doctors that took such good care of you!
Blessings for a quick recovery!

Katherine, you had quite a journey with that stone. I hope it is all uphill from now on. It brought back memories (nightmare) of my FIL having a stone while he was in ICU for the heart attack he had just had. Then the doctor discovered he had an aneurysm sitting right on top of where the doctor had to go to put stints in because it was too risky for anything else at the time. OK. I'll spare you the rest. Wishing you no more stones! Hubby says the pain is AWFUL. Welcome back.
Hugs,
Lallee

I was wondering where you were! Speedy recovery. A friend's dau had it, and doc said NOT to drink tea or iced tea. Something in it encourages stones!
Feel better, K!

Katherine -- I hope you're feeling better -- I've had two and they're the worst pain I've ever experienced! They're horrible and I agree, wouldn't wish them on anybody! Hopefully your first will also be the last. Hoping to hear good things from you soon. Take care.

Hi Katherine,

I'm sorry you've had to endure such an ordeal, but very glad you're home and on the mend. A young man I know was in the hospital recently with kidney stones. I told him I've heard that it's the closest thing a male can experience to the pain of childbirth. He laughed and said two ladies at his church said they'd been through BOTH and that the stones were WORSE!

Hope you feel better soon. Thank you for showing us the flowers -- so pretty!

Warmest regards,
Bill

Well my goodness, what an ordeal you've just been through! I was wondering why you weren't blogging much and now I know! lol Hopefully the doctor got all of the kidney stone and you can now concentrate on recovering completely. I've never had kidney stones but have heard how painful they are...hope I never find out for myself!! Take good care of yourself and get plenty of rest! xoxo

I'm sorry you had to go through this Katherine. Both of our kids have had kidney stones more than once and spent time in the emergency hospital room. Thankfully I've never had this problem. Hopefully it will be your last. Your flowers are so beautiful.
Hugs & blessings,
Charlotte
