Dream Home

I was going to post this last spring, but never did. I received this book for Christmas last year and have thoroughly enjoyed it.
I have enjoyed reading this book as much as looking at all the gorgeous photographs! Barbra Streisand wrote this book about the home (mansion) she built. She also took most of the pictures for the book. Not only can she sing, act, and direct, she is a wonderful photographer and writer. She took most of the pictures in the book. Now she can add design and builder to her talents. I highly recommend this book! It's well worth what it costs!

Since I am going to link to Susan's Between Naps on the Porch Tablescape Thursday, I will start with Barbra's dining room
How's that for a tablescape!!

Isn't it all absolutely gorgeous!!

I love this book!
What a view!

She had been looking at the property for years and trying to buy one of the three houses on the cul de sac overlooking the Pacific ocean.

Each of the owners were reluctant to sell their house, but by and by, and one by one they sold their houses to her! Below is the finished result of what she built after tearing down two of the houses!

She loves barns and silos and this is the design she went for one of her buildings. Don't let that farmhouse look fool you!
It is so very elegant!

The other side of the house!

The Mill House is the garage.
The water wheel works!
She tells a very interesting story about the water wheel!

View of the water wheel from inside
the house (notice the curtains)

I love this room!
Her outfit matches the room! Doesn't she look beautiful!

The Cottage
This is where she records!

A few more pictures:

The basement is like a street in a shopping village!

Clothes she wore in many of her movies:

Her doll collection displayed here in "Bee's Doll Shop!"

Barbra Streisand's house is indeed a dream home, and she shares many details of it with us in this wonderful book! I hope she does a second book!! This one has many enjoyable hours, very entertaining! She certainly "has it all!" Just think, all this and that handsome adoring husband (James Brolin) too!

Like I said it is well worth the cost of the book! Or put it on your Wish List like I did! My daughter bought it for me! Thanks, Ashleigh!
Katherine

I love hearing Barbra Streisand's music/voice.

I own this book and absolutely love it. I agree with everything you wrote. She is amazing. Even though her home is large and has all the bells and whistles, the welcoming comfort is evident in every room.

Wonderful post, Katherine.

Barbara is a perfect candidate for TT at, BNOTP, she would have so much fun with all of us, look what she's missing! LOL! Great book, she was my friend in NY, as was a fashion coordinator for Tapemeasure, a boutique where custom made cloths were made to stars, politician's wives and I was her fashion coordinator, than I moved to LA and sold her tons of cloths at Saint Grmain, French boutique at Rodeo Drive and she once invited me to her house for a party! My claim to fame! Lots of hugs, FABBY

Isn't her home fantastic? I saw the tour of it on TV & it was wonderful. Thanks for showing us even more than what was on that program.

I picked up the book your recommended. WOW, what an education! I read half of it in one day & DH has started on it tonight. LOTS of great information that neither one of us knew. Thank you again so very much for sharing your story & opening our eyes.

It looks just BEAUTIFUL. My favorite part of all was the mill house garage. I have this "thing" about water wheels and old mills. I love them.

Hi Katherine...

I love Barbara Streisand! One of my favorite movies that she did was A Star in Born! I loved the music from that movie. I didn't realize that she was such a talented designer though. The book looks fabulous...one that I would be very much interested in. I'll have to look for it! Ohhh my goodness...here home is magnificent...isn't it! I love the look of the red barn with the stone looking silo...gorgeous! You're right though...shouldn't let the exterior fool you! Hehe! The interior is quite exquisite but Ohhh...sooo...my style! Yep, I think I could live happily in that house! wink! Hehe! Thanks so much for sharing a few of the pages with us!!!

Well dear friend, it has been such a busy summer for me. I'm afraid that my blogging and visiting has really suffered. I just wanted to come by to say hello and see how you are doing. I hope that my note finds you and your sweet family all doing well, dear friend!

Warmest summery wishes,
Chari

I saw the book in the bookstore and just drooled over the photographs. Her style is over the top, for my taste, but great as a source for inspiration. I have added it to my wish list as well!

Hey Katherine, I didn't realize the book had that gorgeous tablescape in it! Now I'm reconsidering purchasing it ... gotta go back and look through it a little more thoroughly! :)

Listen, I have a new series on my blog called: "A Picture is Worth ..." I'm trying to get back to posting pictures about my house, and I'd love it if you'd come by and see the bar in the dining room! :)

A

Her talents never cease to amaze! I would kill to have that dining room and that "basement." Wow!!! Thank goodness she can afford to have people clean all of that house. I would go bonkers!!!

Thanks for the generous peak into this book. I have seen tours of the home on tv, but the book shows so much more. Just gorgeous and a view like that too.

I saw a special on this house, but your shots of the book make me want to buy it - tons of gorgeous photos and beautiful ideas. I wouldn't think I would ever choose a red barn as the design but it truly is amazing. Love, love, love the pink ware on the table - just gorgeous.
