Bluebird Memories

We had company this past week and I almost forgot about the Dish Challenge! I finally remembered today and put something together quickly. I had already decided to use birds since I have a lot of birds of all colors.

I wanted to use this little bluebird in honor of my sister. It was hers and she kept it on her kitchen window. My sister has been on my mind a lot, her birthday would have been in April. She has been gone eleven months now.

Here's her little bluebird:

Isn't it adorable! I tried to put it in the nest inside the terrarium, but it just didn't work, so I filled the terrarium with flowers and put the birds outside around it.

I also used the pale yellow birds (from Michael's) along with the pale yellow plates and tablecloth. Plates were from Marshall's. Tablecloth from Ross a long time ago.

To tie in the blue I used blue napkin over the cream colored napkins and bisque napkin rings with tiny flowers.

The pale yellow and cool blues work well together
The flatware has cream colored handles

The "crystal" is my old standby from Dollar Tree!

I'm happy with the way the centerpiece came together with the yellow hydrangeas:

                                   A view from the top:

A few other yellow flowers helped fill the terrarium

The little bluebird is so happy he was chosen to join in the dish party!

Here's a place for you!

I hope you enjoyed my spring birdie tablescape!

It all started with this darling little bluebird!

What a beautiful table-setting. You always do such a beautiful job --- and are always faithful in sharing your table-settings. The yellow is so cheerful, and I like how you've paired it with blue. Also, the mix of flowers and birds is spring-like and lovely.

Your table is so pretty. I love all your birds especially the one that belonged to your sister. That is great to have something of hers to make you smile.

I love it that you let your sister's little bird inspire the table. That makes it twice as nice in my opinion. I love the centerpiece in this one most of all, but the setting against the pale yellow with that pop of blue in the napkins is just all around lovely to me. Yellow and blue are just bird colors in my mind.

You put this together "quickly"? Wow, Katherine! Great job!!!

When I saw the title of your post, it immediately brought tears to my eyes and chill bumps to my arms. Then reading WHY you had this bluebird on the table, it sent me into full-blown "ugly cry." "Bluebird" was my brother's trucking handle. He was killed in a motorcycle accident in March of 1999. I keep a little bowl with a bluebird on it in his memory. I never actually see bluebirds around here anywhere (even though that's our State bird!), but I sure would love to.

You did a wonderful job, and I like all the little touches to added to make this table special and pretty.

Happy Weekend to you and Joe!

Thanks for saving a place for me, Katherine. I wish I were there for real.

I want you to know that Flagler College is going to be having special teas in a room that has not been open to the general public in years and years. They will be this summer on Sundays in July, as I recall. Just wanted to be sure and let you know.

XO,

Sheila

Yellow is one of my favorite colors and always draws me.

So lovely how you wove your sister into your table. She is probably as happy now as that bluebird is. Missing someone is so hard on us left behind. We can cherish their memory and hold them dear in our hearts. The table turned out beautiful. Just the right shade of blue and yellow together. Don'tcha just love the DT crystal!!! Happy Springs.. xo marlis

You did mighty fine for throwing something together! Love sisters birds and all of the arrangement. I truly think losing a sibling would be so, so, difficult. I am so sorry...Bet she loves your arrangement!

Katherine, a little more info on the event. If you go to Flagler COllege's website, you can look there and see if they mention the celebration of the Ponce de Leon Hotel's birthday. This tea thing is in connection with that. It will be in July, and it will require reservations. Apparently, the room that is opening has not been open to the public in years and will have a panoramic view of the city. I think it costs about $50 for the tea, and I would think it would be very, very special.

Just wanted to leave that info for you. If I hear more, I will let you know.

XO,

Sheila... who is waterlogged from all this rain! ;-)
